No uniform for off-duty officers
Off-duty Ottawa police officers will attend the Capital Pride parade in ordinary clothes rather than uniforms. For the second year in a row, the week’s organizers requested that off-duty officers leave their uniforms at home so that “everyone feels safe at Pride, particularly LGBTQ2 youth, and racialized and Indigenous community members.” Last year, Chief Charles Bordeleau initially said he wanted to wear his uniform, but in the end wore a golf shirt with a small police logo. The police service said Thursday that this year, “OPS members participating in the parade will not wear their uniforms.”
