«The moment I remember most fondly is the first time I crossed the world thanks to freestyle»

- ALBA Cladellas @albacladellas

John Bekaesh is an artist, event host and musician, as well as a very hardworking, voracious person with a desire to pursue his goals. He is dedicated to presenting freestyle events on a global scale and recently started doing mixed martial arts, focusing lately on e–Sports with the Esports City League, being its main ambassador. A few days ago he participated in a gamer event in the Principality and from EL PERIÓDIC we wanted to talk to him.

–How did you get started in the world of “freestyle»?

–I started about 10 years ago doing very small events. I’ve always been an artist, I’ve written lyrics, I’ve done concerts and I’ve done many different jobs on stage. When it came time to present a freestyle battle that we had organized, no one wanted to present it and, by coincidence, I did it, being the most gifted at public speaking of all of us there. Several promoters who were in the audience took an interest in me and that’s how I started doing various things, to the point of being the best in the “Host of battles» category.

–What do you think you like the most about you?

– That I am tireless. If you were to see me from the outside, I would tell you that what I like most about Bekaesh is the desire and strength to pursue his goals, as well as his professionalism and the fact that he takes everything as if he were the last event I was going to do. In short, a person who always lives on the edge.

–When did you start to like the whole “freestyle» and cockfighting thing?

– I started to like it after watching the main battles of “Red Bull Battles», where there were many of the great precursors of rap in Spain. It was an era and a movement that generated a lot of disruption and that was what caught my attention, ending up being, over the years, the main presenter of these events in Spain.

–Who do you admire most in the industry you work in?

–I admire many people. Most of my teammates have something special, like for example those in the Professional Freestyle League, who have an aura of absolute stars and an elite skill in this discipline and even in real life. Many of them are gifted or have an extreme ability that is not normally found in people. I also want to mention the great directors and captains of these ships, such as Asier Fernández and Pedro Henrique of Urban Roosters’, who were able to generate this idea and make it grow, since we must not forget that both Urban Roosters like “Red Bull Battles»’ are the two big industries within freestyle in Spain. I also don’t want to forget all the people behind the cameras, like for example Arturo Castello from Encom Games, who has been able to launch the big ship of DreamHack in my country.

–What is the professional moment you remember most fondly?

–There are many, because in the end my career has stretched over time. I have presented three international finals of the “Freestyle Master Series», one of the two biggest competitions in the world in our discipline, as well as other international events such as “Clash Royale» and “Blade MMA». However, I could tell you that the moment I remember most fondly is the first time I crossed the world on an intercontinental trip thanks to freestyle. At that moment I felt that I was fulfilling a dream, as it is very rewarding to see how one of your hobbies can take you to the other side of the world and to be chosen out of so many people in the world to you to do it.

–A few days ago you participated in the e–Sports City Fest Andorra. How did the event go?

– It was very fun and with a very relaxed atmosphere, like all the events organized by Encom. It seems to me a brutal initiative, in which opportunities are given to the quarries of players from different disciplines and it brings the local people to see their greatest exponents. Bringing such an event to an area like Andorra, where events of this type are not usually held, is also a very good idea and the people were very grateful to us. We were also very happy with the turnout, we expected less and in the end there were quite a few. It was the first ti
