From Nov. 4-12, 2017, Va­lla­do­lid be­ca­me the World Ca­pi­tal of Ta­pas as it hos­ted the 13th Na­tio­nal Con­test of Ta­pas and Pick-MeUps and the First World Ta­pas Cham­pions­hip.

In the first com­pe­ti­tion, four do­zen fi­na­list co­oks pit­ted against one anot­her, hai­ling from all Spanish au­to­no­mous com­mu­ni­ties. In the se­cond con­test, the grand pri­ze was up for grabs among fi­na­lists from 15 countries, to­get­her with Al­ber­to Mon­tes, from the Atrio de Caceres Res­tau­rant, cham­pion of the 2016 ta­pa tour­na­ment.
