CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA AND FAKE NEWS

-

The Cambridge Analytica Scandal seems to be shaking democracies all over the world, but, to no-one’s surprise, it is barely even mentioned in our country, even though it was one of the five countries mentioned in Channel 4 New’s un- dercover investigation.

And really us Facebook users don’t need to be told about fake news in the 2015 elections – anyone using the Internet saw fake news previously about the last government. Myself, a 30-year old male, saw a lot of such stories, involving Axel Kicillof, saying he has accounts overseas, he cheated regulation and bet on dollar bonds, etc, etc.

The present administration, however, has done something very modern, something that no other administration had done before: it is being serious about the Internet and its power.

I don’t believe fake Internet news can win elections, but it sure can mess with people who want to be messed with. Lots of people wanted reason to hate the past administration, and fake Internet news delivered that.

I’m highlighting “Internet news” because newspapers all over the world seem outragedbytheph en om en on,eventhough they have been a part of it for the past 200 years. I’m pretty sure their levels of outrage have more to do with them being cut out of the business of fake news, rather than integrity, something the news media in Argentina has largely proven it lacks.
