FILTER THE DUST

-

The amount of political news which has been piled upon us during the last few days is such that the dust in the air is clearly making it difficult to see where we are heading. If we add to this the amount of commentators – very few of them serious and, as usual, the majority mainly interested in selling themselves without putting their futures at risk – we end up going to bed at night utterly confused and cockeyed.

Actually the political situation at this very moment is extremely fluid so that, with so many players around trying to put themselves in a favourite electoral position or to give weight to their influence on the scene, the best recommendation one can give the poor voter is to relax, sit back and filter the dust till it settles, because from here until June 22 – the deadline for the registration of candidates for the October elections – the amount of information, disinformation and opinions circulating will be atrocious.

But actually it may be worthwhile to consider one more possibility, and that is that you listen less to the multitude of “knowledgeable experts,” and give way to your own political nose. Because, surprisingly enough, in due course you may discover that your smelling sense is as good or better than that of those who try to dump their opinions on you. In other words, don´t underestimate your personal political instinct.

Meanwhile, also don’t let your apprehensions and annoyances with the general situation, which surely are many, lead you astray. Keep your compass clearly set on the course of what has to interest us most at this time, which is that Argentina does not deviate from continuing to consolidate its democratic credentials. Because, and I insist on hammering this in, “It’s the Republic, stupid”!

P.S. FLASH: The slogan at the end has been deClintonised and at the same time Argentinised. It is now “It’s the Republic, carajo”! Harry Ingham City
