BATTLE OF THE BULGE: PART 210

-

Dear Sirs,

She who must be obeyed has captured centre-stage again and won’t let go. It has even split the centre-right opposition, which cannot formulate the right strategy to control the (generally well paid) mobs which are making life miserable for the upper-crust denizens of the Recoleta district of Buenos Aires, where the voluble, virulent Veep also resides. Droll!

Meanwhile, the Super-minister of Economy (and practically everything else) Sergio Massa and his recently appointed viceminister, Gabriel Rubinstein, proceed apace implementing their (non-)adjustment plan, which hopefully will both temper high inflation, of the order of 7 percent per month, or 100 percent per annum, and also bolster the Central Bank’s squalid reserves, which badly need a boost, before the former goes, cap in hand, to Washington next week. We’ve seen this movie before, many times. As Jorge Luis Borges observed, many years ago: “The peronistas are neither good nor bad, they’re just incorrigible.”

As Diego Luciani famously said recently: “What’s it to be? Corruption or Justice?” David Parsons, via email
