DECOMPOSITION

-

No doubt anymore. After what we are seeing in these last days it is a fact that Argentina is in a state of decomposition. Direct attacks on Board Guard personnel by the pseudo-mapuches in the south; the violent invasion of the premises of a logistics firm by Pablo Moyano and his gang, while wounding the owner and some more; the stoppage of tyre production ordered by the Trotskyist leader of the corresponding trade union, a consequence of which three local manufacturers closed down shop; the rapidly growing narco violence in Santa Fe Province; the incapability of the police to protect the safety of the vicepresident… all this in an economy wracked by one of the very highest inflation rates in the world, and so on and so on. It is making life in this country unbearable and dangerous.

Meanwhile, the ruling party, from the president downwards, is busy launching issues daily which are of no interest to the common citizen, such as increasing the number of members of the Supreme Court or speculating whether to suspend next years PASO primaries, whilst attacking the opposition, the press and the judiciary, instead of seriously tackling any one of the tremendous problems we all face. In fact, it is evident that our government is hopelessly incompetent, and also divided, about how to go about.

Given the dramatic snowballing of disorders we are witnessing, this writer, in a very personal opinion, is by now convinced that the present regime will not make it to December 2023 and that, at some point, next year’s general election will have to be advanced. On the other hand, with feelings for democracy strong in our country, one can be optimistic that everything will occur while respecting the Constitution. What is more, we will in all likelihood see a swing in the right direction, led by strong, decisive and able democratic leaders who, contrary to what many sceptics believe, do exist in our country, because: “It’s the Republic, dammit”!
