Coldplay lights up Buenos Aires with booming first gig of record-breaking run

After months of anticipation, Coldplay’s long-awaited extended run in Buenos Aires finally kicked off Tuesday night in front of more than 60,000 screaming fans. The performance was the first of 10 concerts the group is scheduled to play over the next two weeks at River Plate’s Monumental Stadium, setting a new record for the most soldout shows at the iconic venue.

While the impressive magnitude of the performance’s lighting and visual elements were widely heralded by those in attendance, the sheer noise of the event was also top-ofmind for many porteños — and not just for those who purchased tickets.

“I live 24 blocks from River; However, I have to pay for the Coldplay recital since the sound reaches my house... Send help,” pleaded one irritated listener on Twitter.

“Thirty-five blocks from the River, listening to Coldplay. The sound is total madness,” tweeted another.

Other local residents, however, were glad to experience the occasion from a distance.

“I love living near River because I can catch all the concerts upstairs while having a drink on the patio. How good this show is to listen to,” posted a user named Florencia.

“Incredible sound of Coldplay at River from here in Coghlan, enjoying it like you were there,” wrote Analia Cabrera on Twitter.

Some online even reported hearing some songs from as far away as Olivos and Saavedra on what was a blustery and windy night.

Whether they appreciate the free gigs or not, those in the north of the city will hear more from the band for another nine nights, finishing finally on November 8.
