King orders full provision of aid

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim the King of Malaysia has ordered that all essential needs of flood evacuees at temporary relief centres be fully provided, as the number of displaced people continues to rise nationwide.

In a statement via the Royal Press Office, His Majesty instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to ensure all centres remain safe, well-maintained and adequately stocked with food, medical aid and basic necessities.

The King also urged the public to comply with evacuation orders and avoid high-risk areas, while expressing appreciation to security forces, rescue teams and volunteers assisting affected communities.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also voiced confidence in Nadma’s level of preparedness. He said the agency had been holding regular coordination meetings, led by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid, and that relief centres had opened promptly to support evacuees.

Anwar said he is monitoring the flood situation twice daily and has instructed all agencies to mobilise maximum resources to ease the burden on evacuees.

He acknowledged past delays in flood mitigation projects due to land issues, contractual constraints and tender processes but added that several projects are now progressing, with completed works in parts of Kelantan already reducing flood impacts.

He also said the current situation appears to involve flash floods, with some centres reopening and others closing as conditions fluctuate.

Anwar also expressed concern over soil erosion in Kuala Lumpur, which has affected homes and caused trees to topple. – Bernama
