Durban star hotting up silver screen
DURBAN-BORN Tarina Patel is all set for superstardom after appearing in six Bollywood movies and she is working on two more.
Patel, who is in Kashmir shooting for her new movie, made her entrance into the film industry when she starred in local movies and TV series.
She is best known locally for her role in the popular series set in Durban, The Res, which was produced by Anant Singh and Franz Marx.
Patel said she has thoroughly enjoyed starring in the recent Bollywood movies, some alongside famous Bollywood actors like Dino Morea.
“My filmography includes Bhul Bhulaiya, Just Married, Dus Kahaniyaan, Dhol, Karz, Khalbali (still to be released) and Chase (almost completed) as well as One Night With the King. I am really confident about many other projects,” she said.
Patel attended Durban Girls’ College. She was studying to become a doctor but decided to follow her dreams and start acting.
“I come from a very academic family where many (of my relatives) are in the medical field. So naturally a high premium was placed on my studies but I was constantly getting offers to enter the film industry.
“I had always secretly harboured and nurtured desires to enter the limelight – having had a taste of it while studying medicine in India.”
Shortly after completing her studies, Patel packed up and went to India where her acting career began.
