‘OVER 400 COPS AFFECTED BY FLOODS’

Deputy IGP: They could not save belongings as they were on duty when floods hit

SOME 1,500 family members of 469 policemen in Kelantan have been affected by the first wave of floods, said Deputy InspectorG­eneral of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

“I was told that 112 policemen here lost their homes due to the recent floods.

“I saw the extent of the damage to their houses during my visit today (yesterday) and it was a total loss.

“The cops were on duty when the incident happened.

“They couldn’t save all their belongings as floodwater­s rose quickly.

“I have asked the state police to assist the 469 officers and their family members affected by the floods.

“The aid must cover all their needs,” he said after visiting Taman Sri Bayu here.

Ayob, who was accompanie­d by Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, handed over food aid and daily essentials to the affected policemen.
