14 KELANTAN VILLAGES FLOODED

11 inundated in Tanah Merah, 3 in Kuala Krai

ANEW wave of floods has hit 14 villages in low-lying areas of two districts in the state yesterday. The water level rose to between 0.5m and 1m in 14 villages following continuous rain the previous night.

State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Mohd Adzhar Mujab said the two affected districts were Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai, with 11 of the villages in Tanah Merah and the remaining three in Kuala Krai.

The villages were Kampung Bendang Nyiur, Kampung Klewek, Kampung Batu Gajah, Kampung Manal, Kampung Batu 8, Kampung Baroh Pial and Kampung Gual Ipoh.

The others were Kampung Batu 5, Felda Kemahang, Kampung Jedok Tua, Kampung Batang Merbau, Kampung Lubuk Simpul, Kampung Bukit Sireh and Kampung Pasir gajah Keroh.

“So far, the situation is still under control and we will be monitoring the situation,” he added.

Checks at Sultan’s Pier here showed that Sungai Kelantan level had yet to exceed its maximum level.

The Malaysian Meteorolog­ical Department (MetMalaysi­a) yesterday said it expected heavy rain to persist across the state, as well as in Terengganu and Pahang until today.

In an alert issued at 12.30pm yesterday, MetMalaysi­a said wet weather was expected in Kuantan, Pahang, as well as in Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

An “alert level” continuous rain advisory was also issued for parts of Kelantan, including Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok and Gua Musang until today.

Other areas covered by the MetMalaysi­a advisory were Jerantut, Maran, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang, as well as Mersing in Johor.
