ADAM LAMBERT
In the space of a few short years, Adam Lambert has become one of the premier entertainers of our age. Not only does he have his own solo career but, running in parallel, is his side job with Queen + Adam Lambert, which sees him stepping into the shoes (and capes) of Queen’s former lead singer, Freddie Mercury to belt out their arena-pleasing tunes.
Yet, even in that testosterone-fuelled environment, playing to huge audiences of predominantly straight people, Adam has refused to water down his queerness, and continues to let his true flamboyant showman flourish in the spotlight. Just like Freddie did.
In July, Queen + Adam Lambert released a five track Live Around The World EP as part of Record Store Day, 2021. Rescheduled tour dates for Queen + Adam Lambert concerts begin next May in Ireland before they move to the UK and across Europe during the summer of 2022.
If that sounds like a fairly full schedule already, well, hold on, because Adam is one of the busiest men in showbiz…
He’s been a judge on E! Entertainment’s Clash Of The Cover Bands alongside Meghan Trainer, Ester Dean and Stephen “Twitch” Boss. You may also have seen him as a guest judge on vogueing show Legendary, a judge on another talent show called Starstruck, a guest
star on comedy series Moonbase 8, singing on Netflix’s We The People, singing on the A Bowie Celebration live stream, and live concept recording of Cinderella and taking part in the Ratatouille The Musical collaboration between TikTok and the theatre world.
Adam curated and headlined the June Stonewall Day global celebration, to preserve the legacy of the Stonewall riots and LGBTQIA+ activism.
As if that wasn’t enough, through his
Feel Something Foundation (see box) in partnership with Pride Live, Adam curated and headlined a three-day festival, the annual June Stonewall Day global celebration to boost and preserve the legacy of the Stonewall riots and LGBTQIA+ activism.
Getting back to his beauty roots, Adam has also posted a series of 10-minute makeup tutorials on YouTube to give you “hot glam looks to play with” or teach you how to get a “disco blue glam”. Cheers, queers!
In September, Adam was part of the Global Citizen Live broadcast, which aimed to defend the planet and defeat poverty. “It’s an honour to be part of Global Citizen Live and join the fight to end extreme poverty and call for real change to protect our planet,” Adam declared, “especially during such a challenging time for people around the world”.
Other artists who joined the call included Elton John, Kylie, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Christine And The Queens, Doja Cat and Stormzy.
Events for the broadcast were held across six continents in Lagos, Rio, New York City, Paris, London, Seoul, LA and Sydney, and were timed to occur alongside the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 Summit and the COP26 Climate Change Conference.
More recently in October, Adam lived out one of his showbiz dreams by playing a limited Las Vegas engagement at The Venetian Theatre, with one of the shows streaming live.
He also found time to sing at fundraising events for Joe Biden’s election campaign.
Next up for Adam is a Broadway-style rock-and-roll stage musical he’s writing in collaboration with some big-name-though-asyet-unnamed songwriters. Set in the 1970s, the show will be about a real person and Adam says it’s his intention to expand into other creative spaces like acting and producing. To that end, he has also voiced a character in the animated program, A Tale Dark And Grimm. There’s no rest for the wickedly talented, that’s for sure! •
