Perth Parrots take flight as part of national LGBTI sports festival
Perth’s first ever LGBTI sports club held a successful first session last month as part of a national sports initiative which offers a platform for the LGBTI community to participate in sport.
Perth Parrots Floorball Club hosted the taster session at Bell’s Sport Centre during Festival Fortnight ran by Leap Sports Scotland.
Frazer Robertson, Perth Parrots club president, said: “The atmosphere at our first event was very encouraging and those attending really seemed to enjoy themselves and were enthusiastic about participating in regular training sessions.
“Our small and emerging club has come a long way in the three short months since it was formed and we have much to celebrate.
“I would like to thank Live Active Sport, Leap Sports Scotland and Fife Floorball Club for their advice and support.
“Together we pulled together a fantastic event which is a solid foundation for the future.
“Also a huge thanks goes out to all those who made it along to the event and helped make it such a meaningful memory for those participating.”
The event saw individuals from across Perth come together to try out floorball which allows individuals, regardless of gender, to play on the same team.
Sirri Topping, project officer for Leap Sports Scotland, said: “We were delighted to be part of the Perth Parrots Festival Fortnight session and were swept away by the popularity of the event, especially considering this was the club’s first ever meeting.
“It’s so important to have a sporting option for the LGBTI community in Perth and it’s surrounding areas.”
