Parrots in inclusive new fitness sessions

Perth Parrots Floorball Club launched its new Parrots Fitness initiative last week and hopes to engage the LGBTIQ+ community and allies - encouragin­g them to join in on the weekly sessions and improve their physical and mental health.

Following financial support from NHS Tayside ‘Community Investment Fund’ and Live Active Sport ‘Sport for Change Fund’ the Parrots are able to offer the weekly fitness circuit sessions free of charge to all participan­ts attending.

Club president, Frazer Robertson, said: “Since forming in 2019, the Perth Parrots have forged ahead with a clear commitment of championin­g the interests of the LGBTIQ+ community in Perthshire.

“Our ‘Parrots Social’ initiative launched in April 2022 and has allowed our club to host a wide variety of fun and engaging activities, all aimed at bringing our community together.

“Just 12 months later, we now launch the ‘Parrots Fitness’ initiative and hope others will want join our flock and help reduce the general feeling of isolation felt by so many among the LGBTIQ+ community, particular­ly within a more rural settings such as Perthshire.”

Club coach Rhuaraidh said: “Our new ‘Parrots Fitness’ sessions are yet another example of the important work our club is committed to driving locally. It is our hope that those attending can set small incrementa­l goals, focused on improving their overall physical health and general

wellbeing.

“We have a wide variety of abilities to include complete beginner and I would actively encourage everyone interested to come down and give the sessions a try”.

The sessions will take place every Thursday from 6.45pm on the grass pitches on the far side of the North Inch, adjacent to Bell’s Sports Centre. The sessions are open to anyone aged

18+ and those attending are asked to wear suitable outdoor training shoes and bring something to drink as “it can be thirsty work”.
