Labour MPS must act to help vulnerable
LABOUR killed off any feel-good factor that accompanied the party’s return to power with its shock decision to strip millions of pensioners of their winter fuel payment.
Before the election there were fears that
Sir Keir Starmer was too dull to be a
Prime Minister.
Now people live in dread of what this politician of the Left will do next with his massive majority.
He seems determined to unleash a socialist nightmare, surrendering to trade union demands for massive pay increases while axing help for retired people.
His refusal to tell voters during the election campaign that this was an option suggests his personal integrity does not match his yearning for power.
The Prime Minister and the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, have behaved disgracefully and voters will not forget this.
Labour MPS should not be intimidated this week into voting for this raid on pensioners.
A U-turn after only nine weeks in office would be embarrassing for Sir Keir but infinitely preferable to leaving some of our most vulnerable people alone in the cold.
