High praise for photo skills
Buchanan High achieved sum-thing very special as it secured “commended school” status from the Maths Inside organisation’s photo competition at the University of Glasgow – for the second year in a row.
Snap- happy youngsters from the Coatbridge school impressed organisers and judges with their wide array of perfect pictures.
Nearly 30 pupils took part in the contest and as well as the school itself achieving greatness, there were some impressive individual successes developed.
Martin Mcguigan scooped the third/ fourth level runner- up prize, while
Libby Clarke secured the senior phase runner-up prize; both youngsters won a digital £ 10 Amazon voucher and received a certificate.
A Buchanan High spokesperson said: “Our pupils came up with a diverse range of items to photograph and think about the Maths Inside theme.
“Some of the topics were video game design, bees, 3D structures, rotational symmetry, art, horses, Isle of Skye, chessboard, creating shadows and flip books.
“We wish to congratulate everyone who took part and Martin and Libby for winning their awards.
“The school was also delighted to again secure ‘commended school’ status; we take great pride in this achievement.”
A spokesperson for Maths Inside added: “It is our great pleasure to confirm that Buchanan High has once again shown a massive engagement with the Maths Week Scotland Maths Inside national photo competition.
“To celebrate their enthusiasm, commitment and engagement to supporting creative and t ransdisciplinary maths, we awarded the school a certificate as a ‘commended school’ for the second year running.”
