DEAS DELIGHT AS KILLIE ARE BACK IN WINNING FORM

Star hopes that side can build on Hearts joy

Robbie Deas insists Kilmarnock’s standard has been set after learning from bitter mistakes.

The Rugby Park side stunned Hearts to hugely boost their survival chances.

Having lost a 2-0 lead to Celtic in their previous home game, Deas and his team-mates didn’t make the same error against the leaders as they resolutely defended Michael Schjonning-Larsen’s first-half strike.

It was also the perfect way to respond to a 5-1 drubbing by Falkirk and the stopper said: “We need to treat every game like a cup final, I think we did that. I’m delighted. Three points, clean sheet and we need to build on it.

“Celtic was a tough one to take and the most important thing is, when things like that happen, you learn from it. And I think we did do that.

“You could see we stood up to the challenge. They flung balls in and the boys were putting their bodies on the line and it was brilliant.

“We played really well in that [Celtic] game and to come away with nothing was a sore one to take. But this shows what we’re all about and that’s the standard.

“The Falkirk game for me is down there with one of the lowest. And to wait an extra week to get the next game going was also hard. But the boys put so much effort in the lead-up and you could see we were champing at the bit.

“We’ve put ourselves in this position but need to learn from it and I’d like to think we have. It’s never been from a lack of effort. It’s been down to individual mistakes this season. Myself in that bracket.

“We’re fighting for our Premiership status. With performances like that and week in, week out, we should be okay, we’ve got every chance we’ll be staying up.”

Killie have the opportunity to stave off the threat of automatic relegation this Saturday as Livingston come to Rugby Park kick-off at 3pm
