BOXING
Three-time world boxing champion Ricky Burns is happy with the progression of Dundee lightweight Charlie Doig.
Charlie, a former member of the St Francis amateur boxing club in the City of Discovery, made it four wins from four professional outings when he outpointed Clayton Bricknell over eight rounds at Glasgow’s Braehead Arena.
The bout was on the undercard to Ricky’s Legends contest against Willie Limond which Ricky won via an inside the distance stoppage. Ricky, who trains Charlie, said: “Charlie boxed well and has a great future.”
Charlie was to have boxed for the Scottish superfeather championship against George Stewart (Inverness) and that bout will, hopefully, take place before the end of the year.
