■ BIRMINGHAM are understood to have offered to make Illan Meslier their new No 1, but couldn’t match the terms of Arsenal. The former Leeds keeper will be understudy to David Raya and Kepa Arrizabala­ga, although the latter is considerin­g offers and can leave the Gunners for £5million.

■ CRYSTAL PALACE are closing in on signing Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer. The Barcelona academy product, 27, is expected to join after his contract at Celta Vigo expired, having been convinced by the Eagles’ project under new boss Pierre Sage. Mingueza was in the 2025-26 Europa League team of the season and can play at centre back or full back, spending most of last term in the latter role.

■ BRIGHTON defender Diego Coppola is in talks to join Paris FC and their new boss Liam Rosenior. Talks are advancing between the clubs over a deal worth £17m. The Italy internatio­nal spent the latter end of last season on loan at Paris.

■ WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE side London City Lionesses have signed two-time Ballon d’or winner Alexia Putellas. The midfielder, 32, who won the 2023 World Cup with Spain, left Barcelona in May and will head to Copperjax Community Stadium, home of Bromley.
