Celtic and Rangers are set to face Roma in the Europa League with no away fans in Glasgow, with Uefa ready to throw the book at the Italian giants.

Both Old Firm clubs are due to host the Serie A side in the Europa League this season with Roma due at Ibrox in November and Parkhead the following month.

But Roma, managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, are set to be banned from having any away fans at both of the games after riots this week in France for their game at Nice.

French police were attacked by Roma fans amid ugly scenes at the stadium and later confirmed they had confiscated knives, knuckle dusters and hammers and made more than 100 arrests.

Reports in Italy have suggested the club have already accepted they will be banned from accepting any tickets for their three remaining away matches in the Europa League, against Rangers, Celtic and Panathinaikos.

Meanwhile, Sturm Graz star man Otar Kiteishvili will return for their match against Rangers this week after a family issue caused him to miss their Europa League opener.

Rangers travel to meet the champions of Austria after both sides suffered disappointing starts to their league phases in the competition. Russell Martin’s team went down to a 1-0 defeat to Belgian strugglers Genk and Sturm Graz were defeated in Denmark 2-0 by FC Midtjylland.

Sturm Graz were without their Player of the Year for the trip after Kiteishvili had to return to Georgia to deal with a family problem.

But his manager, Jurgen Saumel, has confirmed the 47-times capped playmaker will return for the visit of the Ibrox side.

He said: “Unfortunately, Otar had an issue with his family in Georgia and asked the club’s permission to return home.

“Of course we granted that because nothing is more important than your family. He is obviously a very important player for us and we missed him.

“But he is due back in time for the Europa League game against Rangers.

“We can be a tough opponent for anyone in front of our own fans and we know if we want to finish in the top 24 in this league, we have to pick up points at home, starting with Rangers.”
