No moves for striker Roofe as Owls hover

- by Scott Burns

RANGERS have had no approaches for striker Kemar Roofe.

The Jamaica forward has been linked with a return to England this summer.

The 29-year-old is believed to be on Derby and Sheffield Wednesday’s radar but Hillsborough boss Darren Moore has refused to speak about the Owls’ interest.

Moore, who was also asked about Hull hitman Mallik Wilks, said: “I can’t be drawn into that because they are simply not our players to discuss at this moment.”

Roofe played a big part for Rangers last season

although boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has added to his frontline with the signings of Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence.

Rangers defender Nikola Katic is hoping to strike a deal that will see him back playing first-team football before the close of the transfer window.

The Croatian centre-back spent last season on loan at Hajduk Split, where he helped them lift their domestic cup.

The 25-year-old is one of a number of Rangers players who are currently on the fringes of van Bronckhorst’s squad.

Katic has slipped further down the central defensive options at Ibrox after the summer signings of John Souttar and Ben Davies.

Fellow defender Jack Simpson has also found first-team football hard to come by at Rangers and is another who could move on in this window if a suitable solution comes to the fore.

Midfielder Stephen Kelly has interest from the Premiership, England and in Europe.

The 22-year-old is also in the final year of his Ibrox contract, having spent last season on loan at League Two side Salford.

Winger Glenn Middleton is another who could exit.

The Scotland Under-21 international, who spent last season on loan at St Johnstone, was wanted by Greek club Atromitos.

But they were unable to agree a deal and have since signed another winger.

Dundee United have also spoken to Rangers about taking 22-year-old Middleton but that deal looks unlikely.
