SNOW WHITE

-

Inspired by 2D illustrator Cris Delara’s pin-up illustration, freelance artist Rodrigo Lira chose to render his Snow White for a workshop led by Bruno Camara in Sao Paulo.

“Bruno is an outstanding artist and it’s awesome to know someone else’s workflow and have a chance to work in a environment with other artists,” says Rodrigo. “I have definitely learned a lot in this project and I’m a better artist now.”

Rodrigo says creating the cloth simulation was a challenge and he used Marvelous Designer to simulate the base clothes. “Marvelous Designer is a really powerful cloth simulator that forces you to think how the garment was made in the real world: where to cut, sew, how heavy or elastic is the fabric? With practice it becomes the easiest way to create realistic clothes.”

The hair is a standout feature of the render. Rodrigo started with Fiber Mesh and Polygroups, then separately styled each one and exported all the Polygroups as Curves to 3ds Max. “In Max I used the Curves as guides for the Hair& Fur modifier, than I worked with style tools to finish the look as I wanted.”

Now Snow White is complete, Rodrigo is planning how to spend his free time: “I’m back finishing my short animation that I started last year, so stay tuned for more news,” he says. See more of Rodrigo’s personal work at www.facebook.com/lirarodrigo
