PURGARE
“What I most enjoy when I’m creating an image is learning and evolving along the way. From modelling to rendering, I’m always trying to challenge myself,” explains David de la Orden, a freelance character artist from Miami. “This was especially true for this character because I wanted to do a realistic model that would allow me to test myself on a variety of materials and textures.”
Purgare was an opportunity for David to create a realistic dress in Marvelous Designer, with refinements made in Zbrush. The realistic hair and fur around the arms and shoulders was put together using Maya.
Realism and authenticity are at the heart of David’s work, who typically takes inspiration from books and films: “I always start by gathering references for everything that makes up the character,” he explains. “I generally use Pinterest for this, but I also use Facebook groups such as Ten Thousand Hours and Pixologic.”
