For this particular character, being able to apply at least some measure of realistic anatomy is essential. The goal is for this to be a cartoon with a degree of realism. An accent of muscles, bones and ligaments will be just enough to make it feel like the real deal, but not too much, because the next layer of details you add will cover it all up anyway. There’s no need to go overboard with super-accurate anatomy, as it is not what we are trying to sell here.
