“The cre­ation of this work took three months but [over] two years,” ex­plains Gameloft’s Maria Alex­eenko. “This is an old pro­ject that was started and never fin­ished. I re­turned to it after a long break and was able to com­plete and im­prove it with some of my new skills.”

The big­gest chal­lenge Maria faced on this im­age was cre­at­ing the fur, some­thing she had never at­tempted be­fore. “After try­ing out dif­fer­ent hair cre­ation tech­niques I de­cided to use hair cards. I made a tex­ture for them in Blender us­ing par­ti­cles, and placed hair cards in 3ds Max, check­ing the fi­nal view in Mar­moset through­out the en­tire process.”

Maria says she is in­spired to cre­ate work by what­ever her emo­tions are like at a par­tic­u­lar mo­ment, but she is par­tic­u­larly moved by mu­sic, na­ture, the work of other artists and a de­sire to ex­press her­self.
