STARMAN
It took Brown Bag Films’ lead texture artist Rory Björkman a period of four weeks to create his out-of-this-world image. “My favourite part of creating any image is once it’s modelled and UV’D and I bring it into Substance,” he says. “Even though I have a preconceived idea of the end result, I enjoy experimenting with different shaders and colours. Often a piece can take on a new life at this stage.”
When dreaming up his new work Rory makes sure to note down any ideas and perhaps produce a quick thumbnail sketch. “Then I gather reference,” he continues, “Not too much though, as it will drown out the idea. Pureref is a great software for laying out reference.”
Rory takes much of his inspiration from days gone by, “the architecture, clothes and machines we used to make have an aesthetic that I think brings character and a sense of history. I always wonder what stories they could tell.”
