TO PAY HOMAGE OR NOT

So many games have come before, as well as paintings, movies and many other visual art forms. It’s impossible to not be influenced by them and that’s okay. People experiencing your creation understand the intent of your art precisely because of the shared cultural background. We understand visual language because it has developed over history and we are immersed in it from birth. So, don’t rip off other people’s work but do capitalise on the fact the cooler colours support some emotions and warmer tones others. There’s a reason so many films now look like Michael Bay ones and that’s because the whole teal and salmon colour contrast works. Or at least people who like blockbuster action films now expect that as part of the experience. So, use it to your advantage. Or break the conventions if they suit your goals!
