Sonia Mendoza showcases her stunning, scaly render
Sonia Mendoza is a 3D character artist who loves making creatures for video games.
This piece is based on a 2D concept by Antonio J. Manzanedo. Once I had the base model I made sure I had a good topology to work with before getting started on the scales. I saved a morph target and started working on the scales in a new layer for better control. When it came to the scales, I wanted them to be unique, so I made my own alphas and was careful to place them so as to avoid a recognisable pattern. I also sculpted in between them to further improve the end result.
