FREDRIK LÖFBERGE AND JONAS SKOOG OF GOODBYE KANSAS STUDIOS DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF GAME CINEMATICS

-

Having been at the cutting edge of game cinematics throughout the last six years, Goodbye Kansas Studios is ideally placed to discuss the future of the artform. "The industry is constantly evolving," explains Jonas Skoog, lead character artist at Goodbye Kansas. He continues: "One of the big changes is the rise of real time. The movie industry and the gaming world are converging, blending together in a sense. We at Goodbye Kansas have a real-time department, but we have still only seen the beginning of where this amazing technology will lead us and our cinematic productions." Director Fredrik Lafberg emphasises the importance of technology and how studios like Goodbye Kansas will constantly evolve alongside it. "But," he adds, "the bottom line will always be that cinematics need to be great stories - no matter what technologies we use to create them. But, yes, real time will for sure change how we render our films and cinematics. Offline rendering will soon be a thing of the past. We already use real-time technology for virtual productions, and in these COVID-19 times everyone is looking for new ways to produce content. Real time is a key, for sure."
