“The world’s most complete 3D rendering software” as they say, and that might just be true. V-ray has a very large user base in all fields of 3D content creation, being used for film, TV commercials, animation and
architecture. Unfortunately, lots of Cinema 4D users have switched to other software due to the somewhat messy implementation of the thirdparty developer. Recently Chaos Group has taken back
control and made the new V-ray 5 implementation in house. V-ray 5 for C4D was developed from the ground up and feels like a brand-new renderer. The downside of this is that old V-ray files are not easy to convert.
V-ray 5 is a hybrid renderer that gives the same results with CPU or GPU. Unfortunately they don’t support Metal and it’s unclear if they are going to develop a Metal version.
In the past I have always struggled with V-ray because it was very easy to mess up with material or render settings. Version 5 has fixed this and is actually very user friendly.
Version 5 received many new features that came directly from user requests, making V-ray very flexible for a diverse range of rendering needs.
