REEL TALK WITH EVAN BOEHM
For 15 years, artists at global creative company BUCK have pushed the boundaries of 2D and 3D animation to create new brand worlds; Boehm talks about the future
Evan Boehm is an award-winning artist who specialises in combining storytelling and technology in virtual, physical and hybrid spaces. He joined BUCK as a creative director in February 2021. In his role, he is leading many of the company’s creative technology and innovation projects.
What’s on the horizon at BUCK?
BUCK has always focused on cultivating an incredibly diverse and talented group of artists who bring distinctive perspectives to our work. We are currently expanding the scope of the projects and the mediums we are working in, imagining new ways to push technology to its limits and deliver otherworldly experiences. We also expanded into Europe this year. With a new team in Amsterdam, we are tapping into the region’s remarkable talent.
What most excites you about new mediums for advertising and communications?
In today’s environment, we have the capability to actually create entirely new worlds that interact with the physical world in ways that seemed like science fiction just ten years ago. We can take people on weird, psychedelic journeys in so many new ways.
What skills do designers need to be sharpening now to be ready for the future?
Adaptability and willingness to learn the advantages of new technologies is essential in today’s design space. Focus on the stuff that seems foreign to the old guard (real-time, Web3 and emergent virtual social spaces, etc) to create your own space that people will want to be a part of.
