VIDEO EDITING IN BLENDER

-

01 IMPORT AND ARRANGE FILES INTO YOUR TIMELINE

The first step is to find our files, import them into the VSE and then position them in the Sequencer. To do this you need to use your File Browser panel and navigate to the folder on your computer that holds the files you want to use. You can now drag and drop them into your sequencer and place them on any channel you want. Different media types display with different colours, which is handy for keeping a track of what’s going on.

02 CUT YOUR STRIPS

Blender uses the term Strips to refer to items in your Sequencer. Strips can be relocated anywhere in your Sequencer, including another channel. You can edit the length of each Strip by clicking and dragging the start or end point. Another common task is cutting Strips into parts. You can do this by selecting your Strip, positioning the time marker to where you want to perform the cut, and pressing ‘K’.

03 ADD TEXT AND OTHER LAYERS

Within Blender’s VSE, it’s possible to add various types of layers such as text, adjustment layers and effect strips.

You can access all of these by using the Sequencer Panel’s menu. Simply hit Add, and then click on the layer type you want to introduce. Blender will add it at the time marker position.

04 EXPORT YOUR VIDEO

Once your edit is complete, you’re ready to render your whole sequence out. In order to set this up, you’ll first need to adjust the Start and End points so the correct frame range is rendered. You’ll find these parameters in your Timeline panel. In the Properties panel, make sure that you’re happy with your output properties such as the file type and resolution. And with that, you’re now ready to export your video, which you can do by heading to the Render menu, and then selecting the Render Animation option.
