CLOSURE OF CHOWILLA GAME RESERVE (SA)

Areas of Chowilla Game Reserve may be inundated with water between now and the end of December 2016, to improve the health of the floodplain. The activity may affect access to some campsites and roads within the reserve. Navigation in Chowilla Creek, past the environmen­tal regulator, is also restricted. AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE FESTIVAL (VIC)

The Australian Adventure Festival is being held in the East Gippsland region of Victoria from October 21-23. The festival, based in pretty Lakes Entrance, includes an adventure race (run, bike, canoe, run), ultra and half marathon, trail running, mountain bike events of varying lengths, as well as an adventure fun run and activities for kids. DEEPWATER SCARECROW AND WOOL FESTIVAL (NSW)

The Deepwater Scarecrow and Wool Festival, a free community-oriented, familyfrie­ndly event, will be held this year on November 5. The main venue is at Deepwater Oval, where visitors will be thoroughly entertaine­d with shearing demonstrat­ions, woolly games for all the family, live sheep displays, music, dancing, face painting, as well as a local market. STYX ROAD CLOSURE (TAS)

A section of Styx Road will be closed for safety reasons due to timber harvesting taking place about 1km south of the bridge crossing the Styx River – as approached from the Karanja end. CAMP OVEN COOK OFF (VIC)

The Signature Dish Camp Oven Cook Off will be held at the Maffra Recreation­al Reserve as part of the Maffra Show. The show will take place October 21-22. Visitors can experience camp oven food at its finest, and the competitio­n is fierce with teams out to impress. For more details: www. maffrashow.org.au

FISHERMAN’S TRACK (WA)

The Department of Parks and Wildlife has advised that Fisherman’s Track to Broke Inlet – in D’entrecaste­aux National Park – should soon be open, if it isn’t already. For more informatio­n, please contact the Parks and Wildlife Frankland District office in Walpole on: (08) 9840 0400.

FRASER ISLAND CAMP (QLD)

Camping and 4Wding on Fraser Island is hard to beat, but Fraser Island’s beaches and sand tracks are rough and only suitable for highcleara­nce 4WD vehicles with low range capacity. AWD vehicles aren’t recommende­d. There are 35 different camping areas on Fraser, but not all are open at any one time. 4WD TRACKS OPENING (VIC)
