DRIVE 4 LIFE TOURS ICONIC BUSH PUBS FOR CHARITY

BARRING STATE BORDER CLOSURES, THIS YEAR’S DRIVE 4 LIFE TOUR EXPANDS TO TAKE IN THREE STATES

-

THE 2021 Drive 4 Life 4x4 tour will again seek to travel to some of the Outback’s most iconic hotels – from Broken Hill to Silverton via the Flinders Ranges, Marree, Mungerannie, Birdsville, Innamincka, Cameron Corner, Tibooburra and Milparinka. The Drive 4 Life (D4L) crew planned to do this tour in 2020 but border closures kept them within New South Wales; so, all going well, they’ll visit some of the best watering holes in the bush this year.

The tour kicks off in Broken Hill on Saturday, September 4, 2021 and will finish at Silverton on Sunday, September 12. Even though the 2020 tour was shortened, those who attended all had a great time as they ventured to Cameron Corner (where they couldn’t cross the border) and then followed the Darling River south to the Menindee Lakes, taking in many fabulous stops along the way.

There were only 10 4x4s on that trip, as those planning to come from interstate had to cancel and are now hoping to be able to make the trip this time. The experienced D4L crew keep the groups small and, depending on overall numbers, there could be up to four groups winding their way around the route at different intervals. With those folks from interstate missing out last year, the groups are expected to fill fast this time around so get in quick.

Anyone with a 4x4 vehicle can attend the Drive 4 Life trip, and this route is suitable to all-wheel drive SUVS and camper trailers. The cars must be well-maintained and be fitted with sturdy all-terrain tyres to avoid punctures and a 5W UHF radio for communication. No previous 4x4 experience is required for this relatively simple but scenic route. You need to be self-sufficient for the duration with your own camping accommodation, food and essentials.

A tax-deductible donation of $1000 to Northcott Disability Services will secure your place on the trip, while the running costs of the event are covered by long-time sponsors ARB 4x4 Accessories, IGA Supermarkets, HEMA Maps and 4X4 Australia magazine. This year should see Drive 4 Life hit the $900,000 total raised from these trips for Northcott over the years.
