OUR current editor, Matt Raudonikis, who was a regular contributor back then, took a long ride in a Mercedes G-wagen along the iconic and remote Canning Stock Route. Wow, we could only dream of that at the moment – of affording a G-wagen and driving the CSR, which, because of bloody COVID, has been closed for two years and looks like staying that way for all of 2022!

We also caught up with Rhett Walker and his wife Fiona at there magnificent property, Lorella Springs in the Gulf Country of the Northern Territory. This wild remote place is still open to keen four-wheelers looking for great fishing and wild places; I’ve gotta go back!

As per normal, we checked out a few vehicles for this issue, looking at a Hilux and a Prado, the now defunct Holden Colorado, and the then-new Ssangyong Actyon. Under the banner of modified vehicles, we also had a play in a seriously cool Jeep Wrangler and a Toyota FJ Cruiser.
