4 x 4 Australia
20 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 2002
DEAN Mellor was the Editor and was lamenting his fate behind the desk, while Editor-atLarge, Moonie, was lying on a beach up on Cape York, after taking readers on a jaunt from Alice Springs to Mt Dare via Old Andado, still a classic trek for those wanting to access the western edge of the Simpson Desert.
There were other destination stories, of course, one following the Hema map crew as they went about their task of mapping the remote areas of Australia, while Stu Grant headed up to Mungo National Park and along the Darling River.
Marcus Craft interviewed Kostya Tszyu when the latter was behind the wheel of our long-term Cruiser, while Moonie was working overtime testing the 4.8 Nissan Patrol as well as a gargantuan 8x8 Tatra monster, in what would be and probably still is the slowest test drive we have ever done.
