10 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 2012

MARCUS Craft was behind the wheel of the mag for this issue, which had a title fight between Ford and Holden and who had the best ute. Today it wouldn’t happen as Holden has pulled out of the game and Ford fights it out with Toyota in the sales charts for overall supremacy.

There were tests on the new Volkswagen Amarok, a Nissan X-trail, an Isuzu D-MAX and a modified Nissan GU Patrol, while current Editor Matt Raudonikis was behind the wheel of a Renault Koleos, something I don’t think you’d see today!

We had an in-depth look at diff locks and bullbars, while we checked out Redarc’s trailer brake controller – new then but considered now to be the best in the business.

Packed with destination yarns this issue, Mike and Anita Pavey took us to Kosciuszko NP; Chris and Claudia Bouma headed to Wyperfeld NP in Victoria’s north-west; Ray Culley journeyed to the Pinnacles in Western Australia; Gemma Black jumped across Bass Strait and cruised the north coast of Tasmania around The Nut at Stanley; and James Secher had a weekend jaunt to the D’aguilar NP north of Brisbane.
