SE­RIES PRO­DUC­TION START­ING IN 2019 of the all-elec­tric ‘Saf-T-Liner C2 Elec­tric Bus’ – known in short as ‘Jouley’ – will see [each] drive up to 81 kids all over Amer­ica to school, “safely, qui­etly and emis­sion-free”, states North Amer­i­can Daim­ler sub­sidiary Thomas Built Buses.

Thomas Built Buses was founded in 1916 and is renowned for its ubiq­ui­tous yel­low school buses in films, tele­vi­sion and US pop­u­lar cul­ture in gen­eral.

With a mar­ket share of 38.7 per cent, Thomas Built Buses is the lead­ing man­u­fac­turer of school buses in North Amer­ica, says Daim­ler.

Jouley’s 160kWh bat­tery pro­vides a range of up to 160km; ad­di­tional bat­tery packs are op­tional and of­fer a higher range, it’s claimed.

Dur­ing the de­vel­op­ment of the elec­tric school bus, Thomas Built Buses was able to draw upon Daim­ler’s elec­tric tech­nol­ogy re­sources, it states.

Thomas Built Buses has also re­cently an­nounced that An­drea Corso, has been ap­pointed as head of Com­mu­ni­ca­tions at Daim­ler Trucks North Amer­ica (DTNA), ef­fec­tive Au­gust 20, 2018.

Her re­spon­si­bil­i­ties in­clude DTNA’s in­ter­nal and ex­ter­nal cor­po­rate com­mu­ni­ca­tions, as well as prod­uct com­mu­ni­ca­tions for Thomas Built Buses, and truck­ing’s Freight­liner, Western Star and Detroit Diesel, as well as other brands in the US and Mex­ico.

Corso suc­ceeds Katja Bott, who will take over as head of Global Com­mu­ni­ca­tions at Mercedes-Benz Cars in Stuttgart, ef­fec­tive Oc­to­ber 1.

Corso has more than 20 years’ com­mu­ni­ca­tions ex­pe­ri­ence with renowned con­sumer brands such as Nike, Levi’s and Adi­das.

She is an ex­pe­ri­enced com­mu­ni­ca­tions ex­ec­u­tive, in­clud­ing ar­eas such as tech­nol­ogy, in­no­va­tion and sus­tain­abil­ity. An­drea will help us ex­pand­ing our in­dus­try lead­ing com­mu­ni­ca­tions across the board,” said Flo­rian Martens, head of Global Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Com­mer­cial Ve­hi­cles at Daim­ler AG.
