THE BREAKOUT

D’Arcy Short (Hobart Hurricanes)

-

Batter, left-hand bat

The 28-year-old from Katherine in the Northern Territory was perhaps the most unlikely star to emerge in the short history of the BBL, rocketing to national attention like one of the sixes that come off his bat. Short had only a season of first-class and T20 experience when he set to dominating the league in 2017-18, scoring a record 572 runs and leading the BBL in boundaries and maximums. The signature moment was his 122 not out against Brisbane at the Gabba, another record mark. Short’s prodigious hitting could not be ignored – he was in the Australian T20 and ODI sides by season’s end, the sixth indigenous cricketer to represent the country.
