Last sea­son, Mitchell Marsh re­solved to fo­cus on his bat­ting when shoul­der surgery stopped him from bowl­ing for a pe­riod, and it paid div­i­dends: a pair of hun­dreds in the Ashes and a 96 in the first-Test vic­tory in South Africa. Fit again to bowl, Marsh is shap­ing up as the all-rounder that Aus­tralia al­ways seems to want. The son of Ge­off, hav­ing grown up around Aussie dress­ing rooms, has long been viewed as a lead­er­ship fig­ure, and con­firmed with the vice cap­taincy.
