Made his name within Sri Lankan cricket during the third Test in India in late 2017, when the smog in Delhi had De Silva vomiting at the ground. He somehow managed to make 119 not out to save the match, and broke Viv Richards’ record for the highest fourth-innings score by a visiting batsman in India. De Silva’s had a tough year, for nothing to do with his cricket – his father, a politician in Sri Lanka, was murdered by gunmen last May while he was on tour in the West Indies.
