A school-mate of Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne, Silva had to wait much longer than they did to break into Test cricket with his debut coming at 29. He’s the Michael Hussey type, having earned his shot after making a mountain of underappreciated runs in domestic cricket. Made a duck on debut, then got healthy against Bangladesh, making a century and two fifties while scooping player-of-the-series.
