Time to show appreciation

Albany Advertiser - - OPINION - Angie Fryer-Smith and Richard Ball Albany

In response to Don Phillips’ “Mayor, please explain trip”, (28/6):

It was surprising such a negative and ill-informed letter was published in our local papers.

As a community, we need to back our mayor and councillors for the work they do and the many unpaid hours they put in on our behalf. It is a wonder that anybody is prepared to give their time to the community in public service, given the constant and (almost always) unwarranted criticism to which they are exposed.

Although they are paid for some of their time, it is not proportionate to the energy and effort they put in for us.

Personally, we feel it is an insult that we fly our mayor in the back of the plane.

He was representing our community on a goodwill visit to foster links and to commemorate the Anzac legend.

Please can we be positive about our beautiful region, and provide our support and encouragement to all those who are working to make Albany a modern and vibrant working city? The City of Albany, the Great Southern Development Commission and Regional Development Australia are all working on our behalf to achieve outcomes that will have a positive impact for the whole community.

Let’s move on.
