Cliff rescue vital to emergency training

Albany Advertiser - - NEWS - Jessica Cuthbert

State Emergency Service units were put through their paces in mock rescues at The Gap at the weekend.

SES district officer Gary Logan said the units trained in vertical rescues, simulating recovering a casualty from the bottom of the cliff line. “The abseiling is a huge part of the training and being able to successfully tie the ropes and climb down the cliff face and also ascend back up is so important,” he said.

“I think on average, we have a couple of cliff or coastline rescues per year — so this training is really important.”
