Members savour Masters success
Albany Athletics Club members Peter Muller, Kath Hannig, Barbara Wilson, Brenda Painter, Carey Dickason, Jasmine Heslop and Carl Heslop, along with Denmark athlete Erica Mercer, recently returned from the 2018 Australian Masters Athletics Championships with a swag of medals.
The event was held in Perth late last month, with WA members able to collect State medals along with national ones, given the usual WA State Championships were not held this year.
Still on a high from competing in the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships, Hannig once again tackled the 10,000m and with a burst of speed at the finish, she managed to get in front to collect national and State gold medals.
Newcomers to athletics, Denmark couple Carl and Jasmine Heslop took the opportunity to experience competition at the next level.
Jasmine achieved some personal bests as well as collecting five State silver medals in the process while Carl collected two national and three State gold medals and one national silver medal.
Peter Muller successfully competed in his first major athletics championships for many years, coming home with five State gold, two national silver, one State silver and one national bronze.
Barbara Wilson enjoyed a comeback to national competition to finish with one State gold, one national silver, three State silver and one national bronze.
A regular at this competition, Brenda Painter, of Walpole, once again showed her versatility by collecting one national and five State gold medals, four national and one State silver medal.
Carey Dickason was pleased with her training in the lead-up, helping her equal or better times she was doing in 2010, collecting one national and four State gold medals, three national and two State silver medals, three national and one State bronze in the process.
Barefoot Denmark runner Erica Mercer achieved excellent results in her two events, collecting two State gold medals, one national silver medal and one national bronze medal.
