Player in the SUV market

curtain airbags that extend to third-row passengers.

Underpinning the 5008 SUV is the highly-awarded Efficient Modular Platform 2.

As for being a seven-seater, in sports car terms the 5008 is really a 5+2. Settling into the third row of seats, comfort is left at the door.

Limited leg room is on offer even with the second row fully forward.

On the other hand, third-row occupants can take advantage of automatic two-zone air-conditioning with rear air vents.

Each seat weighs just under 11kg and can easily be removed using a single control to unlock it.

Removed, boot volume expands to 1060 litres.

Without the bulk of some premium rivals, the 5008 SUV has carlike characteristics. Fuel consumption on test was 9.2 litres per 100km in the city, reduced to 5.0 litres per 100km on the motorway.

Steering is accurate with positive feedback from the road, while the suspension copes with minor surface bitumen blemishes.

Peugeot 5008 is an exceptionally well-equipped seven-seat SUV at a price that should give food for thought to the makers of premium product rivals.
