Pad­dle boarder makes his­tory in Avon De­scent

Al­bany com­peti­tor Paul Hep­worth made his­tory last week­end be­com­ing the first per­son to com­plete the Avon De­scent on a stand-up pad­dle board.

Hep­worth com­pleted the 124km course in a time of 12hr. 30min. 31sec. and came in 133rd over­all out of 154 com­peti­tors that took part in the an­nual event.

Only two men at­tempted the course on a stand-up pad­dle board this year, Hep­worth fin­ished just un­der three hours in front of the other com­peti­tor.

Al­bany man Ja­son Bre­sanello came away with a se­cond place in the dou­ble marathon kayak and man­aged to place ninth over­all in a time of 8:05.35 that he com­pleted with an­other com­peti­tor, just un­der half an hour away from the over­all win­ner.

Rob Diletti com­peted in the sin­gle open ski by him­self, man­ag­ing to fin­ish the course in 10:29:09 and come 76th over­all.

Michael Swain, also from Al­bany, was com­pet­ing in the sin­gle open ski be­fore the course got the bet­ter of him.

Swain did not fin­ish and was taken to hos­pi­tal.
