Locals impress at champs
Local drivers Mitchell Perrella, Greg Pearson and Dion Hounsfield have returned the best results at the WA Kart Championships, which were held at the Bunbury City Kart Club last weekend.
Lake King Kart Club member and Albany resident Hounsfield finished fifth in the KA3 senior heavy final.
Hounsfield started on the back row in the 26-lap final but produced a strong final to climb up to fifth spot, crossing the line 10.784sec. behind the winner, Simon Minton.
In the earlier heat races, Hounsfield finished with a second, third and seventh placing.
Anthony Perrella, also a Lake King member, finished ninth in the same division.
Albany City Kart Club member Pearson recorded a fifth-place finish in the Tag 125 restricted final, won by Roy Tester.
After starting in 12th spot on the grid, Pearson progressed well through the field to grab fifth spot.
Albany’s Paul Battye was credited with 12th place, finishing a lap down in the final.
Competing in the WA open performance category, Mitchell Perrella also crossed the line in fifth place.
Mitchell Perrella started in eighth place and slipped back further before recovering to storm home in an impressive drive and be just 7.564sec. behind winner Courtney Gough in the 26-lap final.
He recorded third, fourth and ninth-place finishes in the earlier heat races.
Youngster Harrison Beres competed in the cadet 9 division and recorded a solid 11th placing in the 26-lap final.
In the heat races, Beres finished with a seventh, 10th and 11th.
