Ju­niors sparkle in off-sea­son ac­tion

Albany Extra - - Classifieds - David Kerr David Kerr is the ju­nior ten­nis co-or­di­na­tor of the Lower Great South­ern Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion.

The off-sea­son has been huge for our ju­niors, with Brock Daw­son and Ul­rich Kriek play­ing in Dar­win, rep­re­sent­ing Coun­try WA.

Brock is in the US training at the John New­combe Ten­nis Academy in Texas and en­joy­ing some tough ten­nis.

Abbi Gib­son had an out­stand­ing winter, claim­ing more Aus­tralian Rank­ing ti­tles and had the best re­sults of any Aus­tralian on her month-long tour through Europe. As this goes to print, Abbi is play­ing in Syd­ney af­ter mak­ing her first Aus­tralian Money Tour­na­ment fi­nal in Perth ear­lier this week, los­ing a tough three-set match.

Our clubs kick off their sea­sons next week. Den­mark Ten­nis Club’s sea­son opens to­mor­row from 1pm. Mt Barker’s sea­son opens on Oc­to­ber 12 at 6.30pm. Mer­ri­field Park and Law­ley Park’s sea­sons open on Oc­to­ber 13 at 1.15pm and 1.30pm re­spec­tively. Ken­de­nup Ten­nis Club has its open­ing day, also on Oc­to­ber 13, from 2pm.

Mer­ri­field Park will start its new Sat­ur­day ju­nior club from Oc­to­ber 13 from 10.30am-12.30pm.

All play­ers are wel­come — just rock up and play.

Law­ley Park Ten­nis Club will re­sume its Wed­nes­day ju­nior club in the af­ter­noons from 3.30pm.

Again, all play­ers are wel­come to join and play su­per­vised matches.

Next week we will have a list of coach­ing pro­grams avail­able at var­i­ous clubs.
